GOVERNMENT LAUNCHED THE REVISED MANUAL FOR NRWSSP
Government has launched the Revised Manual for the agreed guidelines and procedures for managing Water Supply and Sanitation Funds under the National Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Programme (NRWSSP).Local Government and Housing Minister Emerine Kabanshi said the revised manual will be the blueprint in for socio-economic development, Vision 2030 and sets a target of 100 per cent access to safe water supply and sanitation to all Zambians.Mrs. Kabanshi explained that the PF government is aware that improved water supply and sanitation is key in addressing perennial outbreaks of cholera, dysentery and other related waterborne diseases in the country
. She was speaking during the launch of the revised manual for the agreed guidelines and procedures for managing water supply and sanitation funds under the National Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Programme (NRWSSP) in Lusaka yesterday.Mrs Kabanshi disclosed that the Ministry of Finance has given her ministry treasury authority to employ 22 Water Engineers in additional 36 Provincial Water Engineers that were employed in 2011 to implement the programme. She directed Provincial Accounting Officers to ensure that proper financial practices are closely adhered to and prevent any possible financial malpractices as government wants the funds improve the welfare of Zambians. And speaking earlier, Mpika District Council Secretary Mutakela Kabombo commended government for demonstrating political will in delivering improved good water supply and sanitation to local communities.
Mr. Kabombo pledged that all local authorities countrywide will deliver to government’s expectation in line with the National Vision 2030 and PF manifesto aimed at bettering the lives of all Zambians regardless of status. Notable at the launch was Auditor General Anne Chifungula, Local government Service Commissioners, Town Clerks and Council Secretary from across the country.
