Government disburses KR42million April Salaries to Councils

REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA

MINISTRY OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND HOUSING PRESS RELEASE

I am pleased to announce that the Government has released KR42 Million (K42 Billion) out of the required KR58 million for payment of salaries for Councils Officers in Divisions I, II, and III for the months of April and May.The Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) will disburse the KR42 million to 82 councils to enable them pay the April Salaries.

THE MINISTRY OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND HOUSING SIGNS TWO CONTRACTS VALUED AT KR154 MILLION FOR URBAN ROADS AND WATER SUPPLY AND SEWERAGE PROJECTS IN LUANSHYA AND LIVINGSTONE

Dr Chileshe MulengaI am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Local Government and Housing has signed two contracts valued at KR154 million for upgrading of urban roads in Luanshya District and for construction of Water Supply and Sewerage System in the City of Livingstone.

The Ministry has signed a contract valued at KR88,980,057.35 with Kiran and Musonda Associates Consulting Engineers as Consultants for the design, supervision and upgrading of 33 urban roads in Luanshya District totalling 27.7Kms.

Hon. Minister nominated to the Commonwealth Local Government Forum Board

Minister of Local Government and HousingUganda 16th May 2013 -- Local Government and Housing Minister Emerine Kabanshi was nominated as a member on the New Commonwealth Local Government Forum Board to represent the Southern Region. Hon Kabanshi was nominated as board member of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) at the on-going Commonwealth Local Government Conference in Kampala Uganda.

Zambia participates in the Commonwealth Local Government Forum Conference

Uganda,  15th May 2013 --, Local government and housing  Minister Emerine Kabanshi  says there is need to secure  Political support  for Decentralisation  and Local Governance for the Commonwealth countries in the region. Hon. Kabanshi  said the role of Political  parties  at National  and Sub-National  levels as well  as civil  society  should not  be under estimated  to  demand and  advocate  for  decentralisation and strengthening of local governments .

Government will not abandon the Urban Development process

Hon. Nicholas BandaLusaka, May 8, 2013, Government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing leadership in the formulation of the National Urban Policy Framework for Zambia and the Lusaka City extension programme. Local Government and Housing Deputy Minister, Nicholas Banda, noted that the formulation of a National Urban Policy and the Lusaka City growth programme will result in development of better future cities and towns from which appropriate programmes, projects and strategies can be developed.
